Technically, you can fit three car seats into the back of a Taurus, but I wouldn't recommend it. It will make your life very, very hard and might even cause you to utter (or proclaim depending on your level of anger control) words your kids don't need to learn. I may be facing this situation soon unless I can find an abandoned one of these: a van.
Either way, we need to get something bigger than what we currently have. Or, I may look like this: a crazy woman!

We have tons on folks at my work that are in your situation with expanding families. I've heard them proclaim great things about the Toyota Sienna and the Honda Odyssey. They all have gone through lesser minivans thinking that they would save a dollar here or there. But, the other vans--especially Dodge will suck the bucks out of your account (for repairs) faster than Derek can put it in.
Aaah, the joys of a vehicle upgrade thanks to the arrival of #5 in the family. It's inevitable, but still not fun and not cheap. We got lucky though, we bought our 4 year old DODGE Caravan off of craig's list for less that 10 thousand last year. And we've had no trouble with it so far (even after driving cross-country). Good luck. And try to remember that minivans aren't that uncool.
Welcome to the mom car club. We bought a used Kia Sedona before we moved and we've been really happy with it. In my research I discovered that they completely revamped the vans in 2006- anything before that is awful, but starting with the 2006 model they pretty much copied everything good about Odysseys and Siennas. They're much cheaper since they didn't have to spend all the money on research.
A friend of mine got a great deal on a new Odyssey by emailing a bunch of dealers and seeing who would go the lowest. I don't know what she ended up paying, but she got them to negotiate down a ton.
Good luck.
What? Gramps hasn't found you a van yet?!?! JK Something will turn up that is in Derek's budget I am sure! ;)
I love Annie's comment! Good luck...you'll look cool in your Ray Bans no matter what!
Good luck with the vehicle dilemma. I'll keep an eye open for an enpty one on the side of the road!
And Happy belated birthday.
And...good luck with baby names. I like your message to Derek n the previious post.
good luck!
The process of finding and getting our Odyssey was kind of an ordeal for us, and I shed many tears. Our car wouldn't fit 3 carseats, period. Well maybe. But I would swear a lot, you're right.
Hope you find an abandoned one soon! :)
I just thought of that funny quote from Kelly on The Office when she says she doesn't want to be one of "those" moms schleppin their kids around in a mini-van. She wants an SUV with three rows of seats. Good luck with the shopping!
We have one waiting for you. I'll give you a discount! 2002 Dodge grand Caravan. Gets 23-24 mpg on the highway.
Good luck Audrey!!! Car shopping is so not fun.
We are car shopping for our first family car (no, not pregnant, just preparing). It's definitely stressful. I will say, though, that Honda's are awesome...Good luck.
P.S. I'm hoping to get the bracelet done this weekend.
AHHHHH! I know exactly what you are talking about we just barely went through this little escapade where I decided I hate car saleman and think they are much worse than attorneys :) We decided to go with the Ford Freestyle not a van not an SUV but in between with a third row seat. We have loved everything about it except our gas mileage change between the intrepid (25 mpg) and the new car (17 mpg). However these vans look so nice. I hope you get everything your looking for BEST OF LUCK!! I honestly feel for you.
