So, it's one of those few times of year when I like to have the TV on pretty much 24/7. I absolutely love watching the Olympics! (The only other time I really like to leave the TV on for such extended times is when it's March Madness.)
Derek and I watched the Opening Ceremonies which were awesome and then we woke up on Saturday, completed as much housework/lawn work as we could and flipped on the Olympics. There's just something amazing about watching your country compete...
I love those little stories they show about individual Olympians and their stories of hard work or how they've overcome...
I love to see their faces when they do well...
I love to hear the National Anthem played when they win gold (except when it's cut off!!!)...
I honestly find myself tearing up when I see the athletes getting emotional. It's all so inspiring for me.
I do have to confess that during the presentation of the countries, I was left feeling pretty dumb, I am very bad at world geography and hadn't even heard of a fair amount of the various countries.
I also have to agree with Bela Karolyi about the age of the Chinese gymnasts--16? Umm...I don't think so. (Read it here.) I mean I know you want to win lots of medals and prove your country is amazing, but let's be honest here.
Better get my fix now, only four more years to go!

One of my fondest memories of my childhood is watching the Olympics. My sister and I would grab our balls, and ribbons, and make up our own floor routines.
I was excited to spread the magic to Isaac. He loved the mens' gymnastic routines last night. My biggest surprise is he enjoys ALL of the events. EVERYTHING! Yeah! Now I don't feel so bad not watching his shows, and just having the Olympics on all day.
I honestly thing having children has made me a hormonal wreck. I can be brought to tears after each "match", for whoever wins! I find each athlete an inspiration.
Man I wish we had cable right now! We are going to have to see if we can watch some of the recaps online or on our friends OnDemand:) Let us know of any amazing event(s) that we should try to go back and watch.

We enjoy watching the olympics too..except we just tivo it and watch most of it in fast foward! I couldn't believe the opening ceremonies was 4 hours long!! YIKES! I'm with on the geography! Some of those countries I couldn't even pronounce!
Elodie has enjoyed the olympics too! She especially enjoyed the girls gymnastics floor routines! She kept saying..."I can do that!" And would immediately go into a front roll across the floor! She was sad when it was time for bed but once Chris said he would record it for her so she could watch the rest tomorrow she was fine!
Jon is obsessed with the Olympics, too. I enjoy watching certain events, like swimming and gymnastics, but he could watch everything. BTW, I think I fixed my blog. Too many goodreads bookshelves, I think. Let me know if it is still a problem.
Amen!! I also love the olympics! They are the reason I haven't been reading! Well, and the toddler and baby.....
Yes I love the Olympics too! We don't have cable so I am going on the internet everyday and of course spending way to much time but I feel such a sense of pride watching my fellow Americans compete in such an amazing experiance. And I agree with you about the chinese...no WAY they are 16!
