So Much Older

On Saturday I turned 31. I'm old now. No really, I am. Let me tell you how the sad truth of this was discovered:

1. I was conducting in Primary last Sunday and I was reading the names of everyone in Primary that was going to have a birthday the coming week. I read my own name and got confused. Seriously, I didn't realize my birthday was only a week away.

2. About two months ago, I played a little backyard soccer with Derek and the kids. I was trying to steal the ball from Derek and he pushed my shoulder some weird way and my arm hurt for three weeks straight.

3. For my birthday, I was super excited about getting some projects done around the house.

4. My reason for putting blonde highlights in my hair has changed from looking cute to masking gray.

5. I don't buy cute shoes unless they are comfortable.

6. I drive a minivan and feel cool.

7. While I'm driving that minivan, I find myself changing radio stations all the time saying, "What is this garbage?"

Yes my friends, I'm old. I've reached that age where the young couples at church don't even think about befriending me because they look at the three kids and assume I couldn't be friends with them because I could never text back and forth with them. And, they are right! I have found the wonderful benefit of relaxing in my pjs all day after church and mostly anytime after dinner every evening. I don't go places to "be seen" only to try and find diversions for my brood. I look at college athletes and young policemen and think, "Do you even have your driver's license?"

Could be you're old too. Maybe you relate to some of this. Or, perhaps you're thinking, "Yeah, my parents do that stuff." I'm old. Old, but happy and that's the most important thing. No wait, happy and comfortable--now I'm complete.

Audrey, I love how I can enjoy your humor and wit and fun perspective on life even though I am rarely near you. Happy Birthday! I completely understand about what is like to be old. I've even found myself confused about how old I really am. Is it 31 or 32? Hope you had a great day.

I'm not even sure I can be friends with you and I'm older. Hahaha. Happy Birthday-hope you got some of those projects done. When you start hurting your shoulder in your sleep is when I'm gonna start worrying about you, but till then we have plenty of time to teach you to text.

Happy belated birthday! I thought of you yesterday while I was checking out the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival! Hope you had a good one and aren't feeling too old.

Happy Birthday, yesterday, Audrey!!! I saw on the RS newsletter it was your birthday!!!
Just thought I'd tell you how much I feel your pain --more than YOU feel your pain!!!
YOu make me feel "young and cool" by being MY friend, so where does that put me on the age scale????

I live by this credo:" You're only young once, but you can be immature forever!!!"
If you can't BE young then just act it!!!
(ps. you are NOT old FYI!!)
Anyway, hope you had a great B-day doing projects!

Well Happy Birthday anyway.

:)

I'm always forgetting how old I am lately. Sadly, I turn 35 in a week or so and that "sounds" better to me than 34. I've been telling people I'm 35 for months.

Also, when I turned 32 I heard a song on the oldies station that was very popular when I was in high school. That made me feel super old.

Happy birthday to you! Loved your post, it made my day. But let me just say that in my opinion the "30's" are WAY WAY more fun than the 20's.

You are so funny! It is crazy this growing up thing. The most annoying part is not feeling older than 21!!!

I hope you had a great day!! I'm with Melissa! Start thinking about where you want to eat...'cause you know that's what it's all about!

Happy birthday you old lady!
just kidding. You're nearly at your prime! But you are happy and content and that is the best place to be!

Holy cow, I just kept thinking "check, check, check"...I'm old too. But maybe that's because MY 31st birthday was...13 days before yours. :) Happy Belated Birthday, Audrey! And from one Mommy to another, look at the bright side...you definitely still have your wit! :)

Happy birthday, by the way!

I feel old too! Now when I sit for a long time I feel like and old geezer when I get up because my butt falls asleep!

I also drive a minivan and also see the new couples in the ward and think I'm close to their age, but then relaize I'm not.

Grant just got married and his wife was telling me when she graduated from high school and told her stop, right there, don't even tell me when you were born, I already feel old!

I do text because I am in YW and that is the only way to get a hold of them! It's actually nice and saves alot of time!

At least you still got you sense of humor!

I'm right there with you, my 31st is next week and there are plenty of grays to keep covered...but that's just the small stuff. Hope you enjoyed your birthday week.

yeah, old my behind. Wait until 35 creeps up on you. And you have a 1st grader-- my oldest is Kindergarten and I am like 5-10 years older than first time moms-- i'm closer to the ones with their youngest in school. But don't kid yourself-- minivans are cool. All the gadgets are convenient and geared toward multi-tasking moms. Love the van. And love you-- Happy birthday!

I love the pic, with that little devious look on your face. You're not too old to still have that cute face! Happy Birthday!

I am laughing ALOUD!!

You are hilarious....

I think we can ALL relate on that, "old" or not...

You are cool...even if there is garbage on the radio and you lounge around in PJ's.

Can we get together for a dinner on a Sunday??? Family??

I laughed out loud at #7. So true. I'm 27 and I guess I'm already old. Especially since I feel like nobody wants to hang out with the mom and her 3 kids. Happy Birthday Audrey!

Audrey,

Fantastic post! You were hot even at age 3. By the way, you've looked super cute in your outfits lately. I can't wait to see what chose to wear today. You're beautiful as always. I love you. Thanks for marrying me.
