Facebook?

So, I've never had a...what do you even call them--a profile(?) on a networking site such as myspace of Facebook. I've just blogged and that's been plenty fine and good for me. My cousin has a facebook account and one time she showed me about a million people that I went to high school with and I did think that was pretty intriguing, but I never did take the plunge.
However, I'm thinking more and more about doing it. I think it would be fun to find out where people ended up and what they are doing. I'm always fascinated by people--isn't that one part of the draw to blogging?
So, what do you think? Do you have a Facebook account? If not, why? Do you like it more than blogging? What do you post on your Facebook account that you don't post on your blog? Lots and lots of questions...

I just started facebook about 2 months ago and it's like a high school reunion. Definitely love blogging better, but I just do facebook to find people and have people find me...the blogging is more fun for me.

Audrey,

It's funny that you should blog about this subject because...I was thinking just the other day that you should get a facebook account! If for no other reason than we can chat there too! I think it's a good idea, I would be your friend :)

I just got one too. I don't even look on it everyday. I just use it to help find old friends. I've only been on there for about a month and I've already re-conected with about 10 long lost friends. I haven't really posted much on my account. I just send people to my blog. I like it because you have to confirm people as your friends before they can see anything about you. You should do it!

I love it! It doesn't take the place of Blogging at all, but it's very fun to reconnect with friends I've lost touch with long ago!

I love Facebook. I actually joined facebook before I started a blog. It is a great way to keep in touch with people you would have otherwise lost touch with. It is easier to post little bits about your day to day life than on a blog. Like, little things that make you happy, frustrated or excited that you don't necessarily want to dedicate an entire post. You can just do it with a sentence.

Plus, you can upload tons of pictures! :) It's very fun, you should do it!!

Love it! I didn't keep in contact with friends from high school and so I like it. Plus, you can update with one-liners and do it from your phone...which I'm sure you will do. I post less than I do on my blog but I do post family pics or other little tidbits. C'mon let's be fb friends too!

First of all, I appreciate your raw honesty about how you lose patience with your kids...don't we all!!! Of course we do and I think it's a noble cause to try and spend more "quality" time with them. I definitely have that on my list as well.

As far as facebook....read my post about it from about a month ago. You will find that it is super fun and almost addicting....for about a month...and then the excitement dies as you do find the people you meet and remember. But, it kinda ends at that point. I may check it once a week, if that, and even then, I may not make comments. I do love blogging...it feels more personal and I definitely enjoy sharing my life with those people I CHOOSE vs. those who I come across with.

Either way...you should do it. It is fun to see those people that you remember, and back 10 years ago email was not such a big deal...so, now it is fun!

I have both; blogging is more for me and a quick update for all the people that we want to update, but Facebook is more for quick contact, because it is a public bulletin board, you see right away if people are trying to locate you. Hook it up to your email and you get notification of your friends updating you without opening Facebook if it's not convenient.

I mainly use Facebook for genealogy.

I have one but only because you can't view friends accounts without signing up for one yourself. It is fun and like a chain reaction. You find one person and the have someone on their account and you just keep finding more people! I'm like Melissa though, I just send people to my blog and don't have any pictures or anything posted on FB!

Happy Christmas! Hope your guys flight is smooth and your time with family is fun! We will miss you!

I HAD one...and deleted the account. First and foremost, when it was discovered that I was behind Prop 8, I was harrassed a lot, and the day after Prop 8 passed, some "friend" of a "friend" hacked my account and up at the top where you put ".Your Name. is..." and you fill in what you're up to, it said something particularly awful about me, my religion, and that "they" wished I'd find out my kids are gay before I die a horrible death...that sort of thing. (I'm paraphrasing...the actual comment was much worse.) That's when I realized something: I graduated from high school a long time ago, and there are people that have such different lives I don't WANT to be connected to them. I don't WANT to be found. I can find my old "friends" other ways, and have, and most of them read my blog. And do I really care what other people from half a lifetime ago are up to? It hasn't affected me thus far, and unless I allow myself the morbid curiosity (usually, let's admit it, with the hope that we're doing better than they are), it won't affect me in the future.

That said, I confess that the "wackywilsons" are right...it's addictive for about a month, during which time you make fewer blog entries and forget to record those funny little moments you'd normally put on your blog, and then the honeymoon ends.

But if you are guaranteed to find people you miss, and you know it'll be drama-free, and you're comfortable putting yourself out there to be found and/or scrutinized, go for it. It really is fun for a while.

I've been nervous to set up a facebook account, myself. But I like the idea of finding old friends that I wonder where they are and how they're doing, ya know? Hmmm, I might take the plunge.

I think it's a blast. I have tons of old buddies that have come to me through the facebook and I have younger siblings who have accounts and it's kind of fun to be the older annoying sibling looking over their shoulder every now and then. . . Keeps them honest. I am sure our kids will use something new and wonderful by then but I want to keep an eye on the situation just in case they decide to be old school.

I signed on to see some pictures a friend had posted---and then all of a sudden all these people from my past starting inviting me to be their friends. I love it. Blogging is more fun for me, but it's nice to connect to so many more people. I'd join. What can it hurt, right?

I started my myspace a few years ago, and don't visit it very often. I do keep in touch with a lot of my old military best friends and school friends on there though. I found most of my college and older friends on facebook and I like that one too. I really don't like all of the games, surveys, and other stuff on it all, only because I can't keep up with it all and I'm not on either of the sites daily or hourly like the other peeps my age. I did start a blog after that mostly for my own pictures and documentation of family stuff. I would recommend having an account on both sites because it really is great to see old people again and have a way to get in touch with them. Let me know if you get one.

I have one. It's nothing like blogging, but fun to see old friends.
