The cooking group in our ward did a whole night on berries. I was really excited to organize it because I wanted to learn about making jams and smoothies and see what other ideas women had.
It was delicious!!! I never eat before attending these cooking groups anymore because I always want to sample everything and just sampling leaves me stuffed--I think I'll go ahead and coin the term "The Costco Effect." Those of you who shop there will know exactly what I'm talking about.
I came home really inspired to jump on the homemade smoothie wagon. I am a HUGE fan of Jamba Juice, but it can definitely become an expensive habit...especially since my kids are addicted to the stuff from the womb.
Here's what I'm doing for mine (no exact measurements, 'cause with these ingredients, you can't get it wrong!):
Simply Orange orange juice (no from concentrate stuff 'cause I want to max out my vitamin intake)
Lime Sherbet (better for you than ice cream--no fat! and the flavor is great!)
Frozen Fruit mixture (mine has pineapple, mangos and strawberries--bought at Costco)
Frozen Raspberries (from my grandma's garden)
Honey (not much--a teaspoon)
Vanilla Yogurt
Turn the blender on liquify and in a minute you have a delicious treat that my family absolutely loves!!!

YUUUUUM. You know, you can replace the sherbet with a frozen peeled banana and change up the flavor entirely for more potassium. I think I'm gonna try yours, though...thanks for sharing! (Wish OUR ward would do stuff like that!)
Sounds good! My mom has all of the Jamba juice recipes. I'll try to get some for you and send them your way. They are so fun to make at home!
Yum! Thanks for posting this. We don't have a jamba juice out here. . . at least not that I have seen. It was one of the ONLY ways to get Isaac to have any fruit. I have tried my own. . . but he's no fool! They just aren't the same. But thanks to you, I have found I am doing it all wrong :)
I am caught up with you again:) A few questions....where do you get your great internet pics? They always look so great! What google search?
Also...your short hairdo is super cute and I think your maternity clothing looks great. I only wished I lived in AZ to go to your Memorial BBQ! Your backyard is huge! Your blog was very creative with how you listed the numbers, etc
I am addicted to smoothies. I use my "magic bullet" and love every single one I make! Way to blend:)
I am a heavy non alcoholic drinker. So girl this smoothie will be awesome to try. My favorite one is
Apple pie in a glass
Ingredients:
4 ounces Frozen apple juice concentrate
1 cup Vanilla ice cream
1/4 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
1 cup Milk
Directions:
Mix in blender pour into 2 glasses and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Cheers to keepin' cool.
Yummy!! I cannot wait to try that one. Especially with the Arizona hot weather we have been having here. And that apple pie one sounds dang good as well. Time to bust out the blender!
Thanks for posting! Sounds like a perfect summer treat!
Hi, Audrey... I haven't stopped by your blog for awhile, but I'll bet your little peanut is loving those smoothies!
My midwife suggested putting in a half a cup of cottage cheese or dumping in an envelope of Carnation Instant breakfast to increase the protein content.
Sounds good. I'm gonna try it! Thanks.
HA Ha I found you :) the stalking is on. Love your site, it's super cute. Our family site is www.mrgandthegirls.com. I am more of a pic poster than a blogger, but I am trying to work on that
Wow, we are going to try it! Unfortunately, our blender just broke due to years of smoothie making abuse. We are thinking about getting an industrial grade blender now so we don't have to worry about putting in too much ice. Well have to send some of our secret smoothie recipies your way as well.
Trevor
All I can say is that smoothies are better than pancakes, boxed or homemade. :)
Hope you're doing well.
