Formica be Gone!

When we bought our house we were in love. It was perfect and we would rather live here than anywhere else.

Then we lived here for one day and realized there were changes we would make--someday.
Someday arrived on Friday.
Someday arrived in the name of Giallo Portofino.

It arrived and I am in heaven.

I am still walking into my kitchen and feeling like I'm not in my own house.

(Except no one seems to want to clean it but me!)

As we all know nothing makes you appreciate a change as much as seeing what you once had. So, here's the beginning--

The strong worker types taking away my old stainless steel sink and replacing it with a granite composite sink.

These two guys transformed my kitchen in about 7 and a half hours from what you see above to total magnificence.

WARNING: These pictures may make you drool with delight and anticipation of doing the same thing!

And, because it's my blog and my sweet grandparents came for a visit, I have to post some cute shots of them. There are several good ones I got of my grandma and the picture of my Papa was very telling of how he spent his time--serving others. He repaired all of our honey-dos. So, consequently, there are not a lot of shots of him.

Ooh....I'm jealous! I'm even jealous of your formica, because my formiica is blue and pink swirls and I really hate it. I could live with plain white!

Congrats on the new counters! They are gorgeous!

It looks beautiful!! Happy new countertops and sink! It must feel so awesome. Your kitchen is really pretty and big!

And I have that exact crock pot you have pictured there :) I am looking at it right now as I just put dinner in it :) Swedish meatballs. Yum Yum. I'll have to give you the recipe..

Glad you guys are doing well.. sorry I haven't checked in more frequently. I am so exhausted lately and I'm not sure when there will be a light at the end of that tunnel. But it's nice to catch up with you a little and see how things are going.

Beautiful!!! We also are in our dream house but are slowly realizing that there are some changes we would like to make. Maybe it will include an amazing countertop transformation like yours!

(P.S. I know I haven't dropped by your blog in forever. I hope you and your darling family are happy and well.)

Thank you for your comment encouragement!
You know, I would totally say that I am jealous of your fabulous and phenomenally gorgeous granite counter tops, but then I would feel I was doing an injustice to my fabulous and phenomenally gorgeous formica butcher block countertops AND backsplash. You just can't go out and pick those beauties up. Ooh, and wanna know another feature of my countertops your granite can't touch: anything hot that splatters onto the countertops/backsplash, stays on the countertop/backsplash. Forever. No way your squeaky clean granite can compare to my 60 years of etched in grease.
Seriously though, they are gorgeous, and I dream of the day that the rest of our house is complete enough that we can conquer the kitchen.....
